Update on the New House

First, go check out the previous post if you have not seen it yet ... Brianna went all out with the photos! Thanks, Brianna! She told me the story of Austin at 5 Guys, and I just about fell off my chair imagining the scene. What a guy!
And a side note about "Baby Henry" that Brianna mentioned ... one photo in that post has baby Henry with his mom, Heidi. Heidi is Molly's sister :) :) :) Well, one of her sisters, anyway ;)

I don't think it got mentioned that my dad came to visit last week? [Do we have any pictures of that?!?!?! Brianna??] He stopped here on his way to Florida to visit my brother and his family. He had his camper, so it was his "home away from home", parked right outside my door [thanks to Mike - the electrician in our fellowship - fixing the outlet that's on my front porch!! Yay!]. We did a good job of "spreading him out" ... he had supper one night with Brian & Brianna, supper another night with Tylor & Molly, he spent time with Corban [Lowe's & such], we visited Megan a little one day [while Corban was at work], and there were other visits in there as well ... and of course he and I spent a lot of time together, too. :) I dragged him to Springfield for some shopping. Now, when I say, "shopping", I'm sure that brings up all sorts of ideas, however here is how I shop: I stop at the same 3 stores in the same pattern, have a list, and get in and out as fast as possible ... the goal is to get home by lunch [it takes an hour to get there and an hour to get back, and I go about once a month]. Mission accomplished.

Ok ... the new house ... well, it's really coming along nicely! Corban had lots of help the other day - mostly help from the older boys in our fellowship, but a few others came, too.

First, a picture of the view from my steps ... this was taken pretty early, so several other vehicles showed up eventually.

This is what I saw when I got over to the house: Corban on the phone, selling scrap metal. He said he sold A LOT that day.

And then to my left I saw Tylor - he has such a winning smile, doesn't he? And then there's David talking money with Olen. Olen is the boss / owner of the roofing business ... but you also see him on here a lot because he is like family ... such a blessing to us over the years!

The next 3 photos were also taken at the same time as the above ones: about 8:30 am. Corban has been spending most of his "free time" [HA!] working at the new house, so it was already pretty far along by the time the help arrived. On this particular morning, I heard him outside with the little backhoe when I woke up at 5:30. I'm sure our neighbors just LOVE us!

Snack time at 10:30 ... I brought my dogs up to say hello to everyone. Megan set up the snacks and coffee on a trailer that was parked by the shop. Her house is just to the right, out of the picture. The new house is down the lane to the right, and my house is down the hill to the left.

And now a video :) I am not really sure what time during the day I took this video, but it was some time after lunch ... maybe even close to when folks were calling it a day?

Maybe I'll give a little gardening update, too. Tylor and Molly should have some greens right about now? I need to ask them!! The asparagus will be here any time ... sometimes we have quite a lot to harvest towards the end of March / beginning of April, but we really get a lot more in to April. This year my new patch might produce some, too, but Tylor's is well established and doing great every year. Both Brian and Corban planted potatoes. I have lots of things started inside and am a bit late on the next round of starts: mostly tomatoes, but some flowers, too. I hope to get to that some time yet this week. I'd love to get a few colder things planted outside, however my chickens really need to be moved first. They just dig up everything, and I'm sure they would LOVE LOVE LOVE to dig up anything I attempt to plant! "We" are planning to move their house to butt up against the pasture fence to where their little door leads out into the pasture. This will be great since we have foxes and hawks that have been harassing them. Rainier will not let ANYTHING into the pasture that should not be there, and she's very aggressive towards aerial predators, too. She's the best dog ever!

Ok ... time to get busy. Tonight the family meal will be at Corban and Megan's. Megan is making chicken (either grilled or baked, depending on time and energy and weather) and I am making the rest. Her seasoning idea seemed a bit middle-eastern to me, so I'm making kitchari [basically basmati rice and yellow split mung dal with yummy seasonings], roasted carrots [roasted in ghee with whole cumin seeds and salt], and a salad ... and for dessert I'm making almond butter brownies.

Love to all, j
